The Integrated Corporate Services (ICS) is a new shared corporate service, launched in July 2023. It provides corporate services (HR, Finance, Digital, Commercial, Security and Estates) across the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero (DESNZ) and the Department for Science, Innovation & Technology (DSIT).

JOB DESCRIPTION

This is a new role within the Personnel Security team within the department security unit (DSU). Our unit is responsible for all aspects of physical, information, IT and personnel security, as well as resilience. The DSU sits within the Integrated Corporate Services function (ICS), providing shared services to the two new departments: the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), and the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT). The post holder will report to the Grade 6 Security Adviser for Physical and Personnel Security and manage the personnel security team. The role will additionally support security transition activities as a result of Machinery of Government changes.
You will be a part of the Government Security Profession. There are a wide variety of roles, specialisms and career paths for Government Security Professionals who work throughout the Civil Service helping to protect the UK Government and our citizens both at home and overseas.

Responsibilities:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead on Personnel Security transition work, including the machinery of government change, new vetting policy, and UKSV decision making
- Support the programme governance underpinning the Machinery of Government changes in progress
- Coordinate resource application supporting transition activities, including GovPass
- Support Personnel Security governance responsibilities, including the vetting service for partner organisations, managing annual MOUs, forecasts, and monthly reporting
- Scope and run any resulting project delivery of a case management system that’s fully coordinated with HR and Digital processes and tools, including joiners/movers/leavers
- Professionalise the personnel security service line, creating a cohesive and replicable service model, underpinned by robust processes and policies.
- Manage the vetting team process and policy documents in alignment with UKSV standards, ensuring regular review
- Assist with central government personnel security commissions, including regular reviews of security levels and implementing changes to policy
- Undertake joint decision-making for complex personnel security vetting cases as part of the escalation process, ensuring rigorous decision-making and a robust case rationale
- Ensure continuous improvement of the insider risk and aftercare programmes in collaboration with the Senior Personnel Security Manager
- Be a role model for the security community, modelling Civil Service values to champion and develop the profession across government
- Fulfilling an occasional on-call requirement
