Description Under the supervision of the Pesticide Manager, the Pesticide Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day laboratory operations of the pesticide department. This includes coordinating and performing pesticide residue analyses, ensuring adherence to laboratory quality standards, supporting method development and validation, training laboratory staff, and assisting in maintaining an efficient, compliant, and high-quality analytical workflow. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES · Performs and oversees routine pesticide residue analyses in food and agricultural commodities using gas and liquid chromatography with various detection methods, including mass spectrometry. · Monitors daily laboratory activities to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with laboratory quality systems (ISO 17025, ELAP). · Assists in the implementation, validation, and documentation of new or revised analytical methods and SOPs. · Supports the Pesticide Manager in troubleshooting analytical and technical issues, and communicates findings or needs promptly. · Trains and mentors laboratory technicians in proper analytical techniques, data review, and quality control procedures. · Reviews analytical data for completeness, accuracy, and compliance prior to final submission or review by management. · Coordinates workload distribution, instrument scheduling, and sample prioritization to meet turnaround times. · Assists with quality audits, investigations, and corrective/preventive actions related to pesticide analyses. · Ensures that laboratory equipment is maintained and calibrated according to established schedules and that proper documentation is completed. · Promotes a culture of safety and quality, ensuring all personnel follow established safety protocols and good laboratory practices. · Maintains a clean, organized, and professional laboratory environment. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Pesticide Manager or Director of Laboratory Operations. Requirements EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE · Bachelor’s or master’s degree (B.S. or M.S.) in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related scientific discipline. · Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in pesticide residue analysis or related analytical chemistry work. · Experience with GC/MS, LC/MS, or related analytical instrumentation required. · Prior experience in a supervisory or lead laboratory role preferred. · Working knowledge of ISO 17025 and ELAP quality systems strongly desired. · Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to train and mentor laboratory personnel effectively.
