Description The Staff Pharmacist, in coordination with the appropriate medical staff, is responsible for providing optimum pharmaceutical care and services to patients. The Staff Pharmacist assumes responsibility for duties, which require the professional expertise of a registered pharmacist and for the daily operation of the pharmacy department. Additionally, he/she is responsible for functioning well as a member of the multidisciplinary team. Duties/Responsibilities: · Complies with all hospital and departmental Policies and Procedures, including but not limited to Dress Code Policy and Attendance Policy. · Maintains confidentiality of patient’s identity, medical condition, personal problems, and medical record. · Participates in rotating on-call duties for the pharmacy department. · Shows initiative in completing job responsibilities. · Works cooperative and respectfully with other personnel, showing a spirit of teamwork and cooperation. · Participates in pharmacy quality improvement and quality assurance. · Participates in medication safety activities and programs. Partners with Pharmacy Director and other hospital staff to improve the safety and effectiveness of medication therapies. Assists in medication error reduction. · Assists in inventory activities. Assists in ordering medication and pharmacy supplies. Ensures purchases are made utilizing available hospital contracts whenever possible. · Assists in maintaining appropriate inventory levels of medications in the pharmacy and approved remote stock locations throughout the hospital. · Interprets and analyzes patient’s medication orders/prescriptions. When necessary, responsible for contacting other professional personnel before dispensing to assure the highest possible quality patient care (i.e. drug interactions, duplicate therapies, drug allergies, etc.). · Participates in a compounded sterile products program that ensures intravenous admixtures are: -Therapeutically and pharmaceutically appropriate to the patient. - Free from microbial and pyrogenic contaminants. - Free from unacceptable levels of particulate and other toxic contaminants. - Correctly prepared by authorized personnel. - Properly labeled, distributed and stored. · Performs other related duties as assigned. Requirements Required Skills/Abilities: · Interpersonal skills including customer relations, reading, communication, and organizational skills. · Basic computer skills. · Ability to set priorities and optimally use work time and perform work in an accurate and timely manner. Education and Experience: · Pharmacy degree from an accredited school of pharmacy. · Residency or equivalent experience preferred. · Minimum 2 years’ experience as a pharmacist preferred. · Registered with the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy to practice pharmacy in the state of Alabama, certification in sterile product compounding. Physical Requirements: Must be able to walk, stand, stoop, lift, balance, sit, kneel, hear, reach, pull, push. Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
