Description POSITION SUMMARY: Staff pharmacists shall comply with all applicable Hospital policies, procedures, codes and standards. A staff pharmacist may, in the absence of the Director of Pharmacy, be required to perform essential duties of the Director of Pharmacy. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Compounds, prepares, mixes, manufacturers and dispenses medications, drugs and solutions, sees to it that assay and quality control procedures are carried out when necessary. Dispenses controlled substances, maintains the appropriate control forms, may provide narcotic information, and consultation to physicians and other health professionals. Assists in training pharmacy students by supervising and providing information. Provides information regarding drugs for all personnel and staff through the direction of the Director of Pharmacy, implements decisions of the P&T Committee. Prepares parenteral medications manufactured in the Hospital including IV admixtures, IVPB’s when needed, supervises IV technician while he/she prepares the IV’s. Maintains and controls stock of pharmaceuticals in the pharmacy and on the floors, including antidotes and emergency drugs, under proper storage, replenishes shelf stock after applying pricing data. Maintains legally required prescription files and records of drugs used, dispensed and/or manufactured, also prepares reports as needed. Fills and labels cart cassettes, if needed. Participates in providing information to patients regarding their drug histories for possible allergies and interactions when requested. Maintains a drug information file for the Hospital. Establishes specifications for procurement of drugs and biologicals. Participates in developing the Hospital Formulary. Enters all orders from the Hospital floors into the computer to generate appropriate labels and charges for all inpatients, used, dispensed and/or manufactured, also prepares reports as needed. Monitors drug therapy for contraindications, incompatibilities, allergies and dosing errors. Also supplemental and complemental information regarding these subjects. Issues controlled substances to patient care areas and maintains records as required by law and pharmacy policies. Provides drug information to the Hospital professional staff and patients as necessary. Participates in educational programs provided for the Hospital’s professional staff. Participates in pharmacy orientation programs, pharmacy staff meetings, and in-service educational programs. Requirements Graduate of a college of pharmacy accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE) or graduate of a foreign college of pharmacy. Currently licensed to practice pharmacy in California and one year of Hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
