Your Opportunity:
The Drug Utilization & Stewardship Pharmacist is responsible for helping identify, implement and measure strategies to improve the safety, quality and sustainability of prescribing patterns and therefore medication use in Alberta Health Services (AHS). The successful candidate will work closely with prescribers, Pharmacy Leadership and other relevant stakeholders to inform and direct optimal prescribing patterns within AHS. The Drug Utilization & Stewardship Pharmacist role requires the pharmacist to: Assist with the development and coordination of a structured, ongoing system for improving the quality of drug use. Evaluate medications for use and inclusion on the AHS formulary. Review utilization of medications, both internal to AHS and externally at times, in order to understand and make recommendations to help ensure safe, appropriate, and cost-effective use of medications. Work with internal and external clinicians and stakeholders to support and implement initiatives for ongoing improvement of stewardship of medications. Work closely with other members of the pharmacy team across the province, with other health professionals internally and externally, with Alberta Health, and other stakeholders to achieve the deliverables of the position. Have strong project management skills and leadership abilities. There is flexibility as to the location of this position within the Province of Alberta. You will manage medication therapy for patients, both initially and on an ongoing basis.
