GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Pharmacist must be able to work independently and with a team to solve patient care and technical issues as they occur on a daily basis. This position must be able to communicate effectively with the Medical Director, Allied Health Division Director, Clinicians, Pharmacy staff, and customers. The ability to understand the principles and practices in compounding and dispensing drugs and other pharmaceutical products is essential. This position works under general supervision of the Pharmacy Manager while independently developing work methods and sequences.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Thorough knowledge of professional pharmacy theory, techniques, equipment, practices and procedures;
  • Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices in compounding and dispensing drugs and other pharmaceutical products;
  • Skill in accurately compounding medications and standard pharmaceuticals;
  • Considerable knowledge of the basic pathophysiological processes being treated and how pharmaceutical science is applied in the medical field;
  • Considerable knowledge of State and Federal standards, guidelines and regulation;
  • General knowledge of physician services, nursing, dietetics, medical records, social services, civil and patient rights, and proper utilization of facilities as they relate to pharmacy services;
  • Knowledgeable about the 340B program;
  • Adequate computer skills to operate Microsoft Office and pharmacy information systems;
  • Ability to instruct students and other health professionals in pharmacy procedures;
  • Ability to supervise the work of others and work as a team;
  • Ability to organize and work independently;
  • Ability to interpret and apply rules, regulations, and policies to different situations and facilities;
  • Ability to coordinate administrative functions of a pharmacy;
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with medical staff community partners, facility management, professional consultants, and other professionals.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Graduation from a recognized school of pharmacy.

Responsibilities
  • Processes and fills prescriptions for Public Health Clinics, our partners, and Employee Wellness Clinic.
  • Counsels patients on medications, provides drug information, answers questions, and consults with providers.
