Roles & Responsibilities

  • Managerial
  • Maintaining sufficient inventory of material supplies and equipment for performance of duties
    • Reporting shortage of materials to supervisor at earliest convenience, maintaining records for ordering and replenishments
  • Technical
  • Reviews and interprets each prescription/ medication orders in the ward and outpatient settings.
      • Provides appropriate patient information concerning the medications if & when required.
      • Advise/ questions/ clarified any prescription abnormality with the prescribing physician. Any unresolved problems are referred to chief pharmacist.
      • Inspects wards and clinics for outdated, deteriorated, or excessive stocks.
      • Performs drug utilization/administration evaluations, systematic internal reviews.
      • Demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following:
      • Ability to read, interpret, and apply complex written instructions.
      • Knowledge of professional Pharmacy practice.
      • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
      • Basic knowledge of pharmaceuticals, pharmacokinetics, pharmacotherapeutics.
      • Basic computer skills.
      • Ability to analyse drug-related medical problems; and
      • Skill in preparing sterile products.
      • Checks & reviews medication stocks register in the wards to ensure drug availability and correct inventory.
      • Replenish crash carts medications including controlled drugs.
      • Maintains a register for crash carts locks.
      • Inspects Pharmacy inventory, nursing cabinets and removes any outdated or deteriorated medications.
      • Answers drug related inquiries received from physicians, dentist and nurses. Those inquiries which cannot be answered with certainty are to be referred to the chief pharmacist.
      • Assists in the training of new in-pharmacist staff as per the direction of the chief pharmacist.
    • Performs other miscellaneous duties, as directed by the chief pharmacist.
  • Quality and Safety
  • Promoting and maintaining quality in all services and ensure continuous quality improvement measures are in place. Conduct method evaluation/ development as per standard policies and procedures
      • Complying with all safety and quality control programs and procedures as applicable
      • Complying with applicable precautions for environmental safety, infection control, using a series of interventions that minimize or prevent cross infections
      • Ensuring that safety procedures and quality assurance tests are maintained within all sections
      • Comply and support clinical audit processes within the service and report on these as agreed 
    • Communicating in a professional and courteous manner with patients, family and other medical personnel as necessary to obtain information for laboratory records, explain procedures, clarify orders and communicate status.
