POSITION SUMMARY:

Busy practice currently looking for a highly engaged self-motivated clinical oncology pharmacist. The pharmacist will participate in daily operations of the pharmacy under the direction of the pharmacy manager.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical and medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of medical safety standards to assist in manufacturing and working with pharmaceutical substances.
  • Proficient in aseptic techniques and procedures and the ability to demonstrate such.
  • Proficient in mathematics.
  • Accounting knowledge.
  • Must be able to type and work on a computer.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Outlook, and Internet.
  • Some travel required

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • PharmD required
  • Current Arizona State Board of Pharmacy Pharmacist license in good standing.
    · 3-5 years Pharmacist experience.
    · Preferred previous experience in a hospital or free standing cancer center

· Preferred experience with oral chemotherapeutics

  • Preferred knowledge of USP797 and USP800

Responsibilities

· Provides accurate, clinically relevant drug education to oncology physicians, nurses, and other care team members including advising on formulary chemotherapy and suggesting alternative therapeutic regimens/options as needed, performing drug utilization reviews, completing appropriate/accurate documentation.
· Optimizes the outcomes of oncology patients by providing evidence-based, patient-centered drug therapies and monitors for drug-related problems and medication cost containment.
· Serves as a resource for training and educating medical, nursing and pharmacy staff as it relates to medical oncology/chemotherapy.
· Identifies, prevents, reports and investigates potential adverse drug reactions and medication errors.
· Assists in the development and maintenance of a chemotherapy formulary and builds and reviews care plans
· Supports regulatory requirements and local quality programs related to safe medication use
· Trains and supports staff on IV and Chemotherapy preparation
· Review, process, and dispense medication orders electronically after establishing appropriateness of drug choice, dosage, administration route and quantity in a timely manner.
· Keeps abreast of changing protocols and clinical pharmacy standards as they pertain to oncology
