Description SUMMARY: Pharmacy is a blend of science, health care, direct patient contact, technology, ethics, and business. A pharmacist is a highly skilled and trusted medication expert. You will know and understand everything there is to know about drugs. You are familiar with the biochemical makeup of drugs and how that impacts their use, side effects, interactions, and implications of effectiveness. Your role revolves around dispensing prescriptions to patients, conducting health screenings, giving immunizations, and advising on the safe use of medicine. GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: As a pharmacist, your main task will be filling prescriptions for patients. You’ll likely perform other tasks on a daily basis, including: Checking a customer's history to ensure their new medications won't interfere with their old ones Giving vaccines, like the flu shot Testing a customer's blood sugar, cholesterol level, or blood pressure Teaching customers how to take their medicine safely and effectively Consulting with doctors and other health care professionals about prescriptions for specific customers Providing basic wellness screenings Managing the pharmacy, including pharmacy techs and assistants Negotiating with insurance providers Maintaining customer records Recommending over-the-counter medication Providing basic health advice on topics like stress management, nutrition, how to stop smoking, and other lifestyle changes Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations and commitment to patient privacy. Excellent communication skills with a focus on patient service. Requirements Education: BS in Pharmacy or Pharmacist Degree from an accredited educational institution. Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ experience performing prescription dispensing activities that demonstrate a strong working knowledge of applicable state and federal controlled substance laws. Certified Immunizer or willing to become an immunizer within 90 days of hire. Certification/Licensure Current pharmacist license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Current BLS Certification Software/Hardware: Must be proficient and have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.). Preferred: Immunization certificate
