* Job Function: 01. Working Knowledge: Is responsible to ensure the workflow of the retail pharmacy is maintained in an efficient manner. Enusre prescriptions are filled in a timely manner, including the accurate maintenance of patient profiles. Ensures that all prescriptions are adjudicated and rejections are acted upon. * Job Function: 02. Ensures that accurate ordering of medications and supplies through approved vendors. Ensures inventory is maintained appropriatel. * Job Function: 03. Checking: Checks prescriptions accurately making corrections to patient profiles if necessary. Legibly signs all paperwork and/or labels associated with these processes. * Job Function: 04. Profiling / Transcribing: Reviews patient profiles to assure appropriate therapy based on patient specific information that includes at least the following: age, gender, diagnosis, co-morbidities, relevant laboratory values, allergies, height, weight and BSA, pregnancy and lactation status. Reviews and transcribes all medication orders including specialized orders based on approved protocols accurately and timely verifying therapy, correct medication, route, dose and frequency. Makes recommendations for alternate treatments when necessary. * Job Function: 05. Dispensing Medications: Dispenses medications, prescriptions, miscellaneous items accurately and promptly. Processes requests via phone, window, fax, and computer in a professional and timely manner. Obtains medications when needed to provide optimal patient care using economical or alternative options. Legibly signs all paperwork and/or labels associated with these processes. * Job Function: 06. Drug Information: Provides drug information to physicians, nurses, other health care professionals, and patients/family members. Demonstrates and shares knowledge of various drug information resources and knows how to research and interpret data and information. * Job Function: 07. Performance Improvement/Customer Satisfaction: Answers phones, window, and door promptly and in a courteous manner. Able to handle problems/issues independently. Seeks opportunities to work independently on projects, teams and committees. Is professional and helpful to patients, coworkers, and allied health professionals. Directs and monitors technicians assisting when necessary to maintain workflow. * Job Function: 08. Education/Training: Completes all competency training. Participates and coaches in education and training programs for new employees, current employees, students, and pharmacy residents. Maintains professional competency by keeping abreast of current literature, new medications and therapies. Is encouraged to maintain active membership in professional organizations. * Job Function: 09. Standards and Regulations: Demonstrates knowledge of standards and regulations and maintains proper documentation. Assures readiness with all regulatory agencies and compliance with department, hospital and AHS policies and procedures. Assists in the documentation, implementation and monitoring of medication and patient safety initiatives. At Morristown Medical Center and Newton Medical Center we have full-service retail pharmacies. They provide prescription medication services to patients and the local community in a convenient location on the first floor of the hospital, inside the Corner Store Gift Shop at Morristown and behind the coffee shop at Newton adjacent to the main entrance. A convenient service provided in our retail pharmacies is having your prescriptions you receive at discharge filled and ready for pick-up before you leave to go home. That means the discharge process will be a little easier for you and your family or friends since there is no need to stop at your retail pharmacy on the way home. The Pharmacy Department also works with physicians and nurses to ensure that medications used at Atlantic Health System are safe and effective. Pharmacists are integrated into your care teams to provide real time medication information and help you get the most benefit from your medications.
