UPMC Hamot is seeking a highly motivated Pharmacist Specialist, Senior to support our evolving outpatient infusion services. This full-time role offers a Monday–Friday schedule (7:30 AM–4:00 PM)—no weekends or holidays required. You’ll play a key role in supporting high-risk, high-cost infusion therapies—including biologics, immunotherapies, and other specialty medications. Working from our central pharmacy, you’ll oversee clinical operations, answer infusion-related questions, and collaborate directly with nursing staff and providers across multiple infusion sites.

In this role, there is opportunity to –

  • Interpret and verify physician orders to ensure safe and accurate medication dispensing.
  • Manage infusion-related pharmacy operations and respond to clinical inquiries.
  • Collaborate with outpatient infusion nurses and providers to optimize care delivery.
  • Oversee sterile compounding processes in compliance with aseptic technique standards.
  • Identify and report adverse drug events and medication-related safety concerns.
  • Optimize formulary use and support therapeutic interchange protocols.
  • Review medication profiles for allergies, interactions, and duplications.
  • Communicate effectively with healthcare providers to clarify unclear prescriptions.
  • Supervise pharmacy technicians, aides, and students as needed.
  • Utilize pharmacy informatics and technologies to enhance workflow and safety.
  • Educate staff and students on infusion medications and pharmacy best practices.
  • Support regulatory compliance and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in financial and clinical evaluations to ensure cost-effective therapies.
  • Adhere to all professional, institutional, and legal standards of pharmacy practice.
