Description

Polaris Travel Clinic and Pharmacy in Airdrie is accepting applications for a pharmacy assistant. Our clinic is focused on travel health and vaccinations. Patients see us in advance of their travel, and we provide consultations, immunizations, prescriptions and other travel-related retail items. We also do non-travel vaccinations for post-secondary students, as well as COVID and flu vaccines. Our office looks and feels like a physician’s office even though it is considered a pharmacy. The position is for a minimum of 30 hours a week.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the daily operation of the clinic, which includes the following:

  • Creating and maintaining up-to-date patient charts, including data entry of patient care information into health records software
  • Billing of charges to drug plans, and troubleshooting any problems if necessary
  • Accurate preparation of prescription medications and assistance in preparation of vaccines to be administered by nurses or pharmacists
  • Inventory control of medications and vaccines including ordering and receiving stock, and returning expired products
  • Monitoring vaccine fridge temperatures
  • Managing and faxing patient reports
  • Answering, screening and forwarding telephone calls
  • Scheduling and confirming appointments
  • Provide an excellent level of patient care and customer service to our clients

Experience:

  • One year of experience as a pharmacy assistant is a strongly preferred. Other experience and/or education as a pharmacy assistant or technician, administrative assistant or medical office assistant is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Kroll is an asset but not required

Skills:

  • Excellent customer service skills and a positive attitude are essential
  • A proactive approach to problem solving
  • Attention to detail is very important
  • Good organizational, time management and prioritization skills
  • Ability to work both independently with minimum or no supervision and in a smaller office team environment
  • Professionalism and ability to maintain patient confidentiality at all times

Clinic hours are Tuesday 12noon-730pm, Wednesday 12noon-730pm, Thursday 9am-430pm, Friday 9am-430pm, and Saturday 9am-1pm. We have no plans of being open on Sundays or holidays. The usual weekly schedule for this position will be 30 hours between Tuesday and Friday. Working Saturday shifts regularly is not expected but the opportunity will be available to add in if interested.
