STERILE COMPOUNDING SUPERVISOR

Smith’s Pharmacy Labs is a state-of-the-art compounding pharmacy in Toronto, Ontario, established over 80 years ago. We specialize in the preparation of customized formulations, including sterile infusions, bio-identical hormones, pain management formulas, cosmeceutical preparations, and pediatric compounds. Smith’s Pharmacy is positioned to deliver tailored medications that address unmet medical needs where no commercial products are available. Our compounded pharmaceutical and nutraceutical preparations are created based on prescriptions from healthcare practitioners and institutions, ensuring patients receive the exact strength and dosage form required.
We are seeking a Sterile Compounding Supervisor to join our growing team. Reporting to the CEO and Designated Manager, this role is responsible for leading, coordinating, and overseeing daily sterile compounding operations to ensure patient safety, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Part A Member of the Ontario College of Pharmacists
  • 2 years of minimum experience in sterile and non-sterile compounding environment
  • Compounding Certification considered an asset, preferably former training with PCCA, Medisca or equivalent
  • Must have extensive experience & knowledge of USP 795, 797, 800
  • Previous experience in writing and updating SOPs for a compounding pharmacy, hospital or previous drug preparation facility, drug information resource, formula development
  • Experience working in a compounding specialty pharmacy or drug preparations experience required
  • Must have experience running day to day operations in compounding pharmacy
  • Must be able to fluently communicate in English both written and orally
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple demands and changing priorities

Responsibilities
  • Maintaining the quality program including control substances, reporting, and revising procedures as required to ensure continuous improvement
  • Provide training and coaching to compounding pharmacists, technicians, quality assurance department/maintenance staff
  • Create and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the compounding facility to meet guidelines and regulation
  • Continually observe and evaluate current pharmacy operations and compounding activities and implement best practices
  • Support daily admixing activities (antibiotic batch, anesthetics, TPN, oncology, narcotics) while ensuring compliance with SOPs, NAPRA, and sterile admixing principles
  • Conduct and supervise daily sterile compounding activities reinforcing compounding techniques and practices
  • Implement and follow up on improvement plans to prioritize activities and ensure consistent pharmacy operations
  • Collaborate with pharmacy manager and CEO to supervise compounding activities and compliance to ensure patient safety
  • Ensure the application and compliance with existing compounding procedures, legislation, Health Canada, and Standards of Practice
  • Conduct annual employee performance review for direct reports
  • Ensure quality parameters and customer demands are met continuously
