Description Job Summary: To prepare and distribute routine dosage orders. Prepackage pharmaceuticals, and prepare sterile compounds as directed. To measure, mix, count, label, and record amounts of dosages and prescriptions. To precept and train lower level pharmacy technicians and assist pharmacist in the dispensing of prescriptions. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of procedures and standards for the labeling and dispensing of prescribed medications. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Verbal and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills. Ability to perform basic supervisory functions. Ability to sort, check, count, and verify numbers. Responsibilities: Assists in the preparation and dispensing of prescriptions; counts, packages, and labels dosages. Prices and files prescriptions. Add measured drugs or nutrients to intravenous solutions under sterile conditions to prepare intravenous (IV) packs under supervision. Serves as preceptor of Pharmacy Tech I's to include training and real time feedback and evaluation. Coordination of regulatory documentation and daily processes specific to area Cleans and helps maintain equipment and work area per established procedures Accesses patient profiles and electronic health record as needed to accomplish assigned tasks Participates in medication related charge documentation and submission activities The duties listed are general in nature and are examples of the duties and responsibilities performed and are not meant to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Physical and Environmental Demands: Requires occasional exposure to biohazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, occasional travelling to offsite locations, constant work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, frequent bending, occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, occasional climbing, occasional crouching/stooping, occasional kneeling, occasional pushing/pulling, occasional reaching, frequent sitting, frequent standing, occasional twisting, and frequent walking. (occasional-up to 20%, frequent-from 21% to 50%, constant-51% or more) Requirements Education & Experience: High school diploma/GED plus two years of job specific experience that is deemed sufficient for allowing for precepting of employees in area. Preferred that experience obtained in related work unit at UMMC. Certifications, Licenses or Registration required: Pharmacy Technician Certification administered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or certification administered by the National Healthcare Association (NHA). Current UMMC employees who were grandfathered in by MS BOP are exempt from certification requirement. Pharmacy Technician registration with the Mississippi State Board of Pharmacy. Completion of a pre-employment drug screen required.
