PATRIOTS VILLAGE IN SUMTER IS NOW HIRING A PHARMACY TECH TO JOIN OUR TEAM! The Pharmacy Tech will assist in the healthcare management of residents admitted into the facility by supporting pharmacists with medication preparation, distribution, inventory management, and maintaining a clean and organized pharmacy area. He or she will assist in filling prescriptions, managing patient medication distribution, and providing necessary information under the direct supervision of a licensed Pharmacist. They may also assist with administrative tasks such as maintaining patient and medication records. QUALIFICATIONS * Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) preferred * Must be registered or licensed in accordance with state requirements * At least one year’s experience in a healthcare or pharmacy setting * Strong patient service and communication skills * Basic knowledge of pharmacology and understanding of drug use and dosage * Ability to work under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist * Attention to detail and precision in medication dispensing * Effective time management and organizational skills * Ability to follow standard procedures for medication compounding, packaging, and labeling RESPONSIBILITIES * Assist pharmacists in accurately preparing, labeling, and dispensing medications to patients, following strict protocols to ensure patient safety * Utilize pharmaceutical software to input prescription information and ensure proper billing of medications * Package and label pharmaceutical products in preparation for pharmacist review before distribution to patients * Conduct regular inventory checks to monitor stock levels, identify shortages, and assist in order placement and restocking procedures * Manage the storage of medications and supplies to ensure they are kept in optimal conditions, following guidelines for temperature control and security * Dispose of expired or damaged medications under the guidance of a pharmacist, adhering to environmental and safety protocols * Collaborate with nursing staff to ensure medications are delivered accurately and timely to residents, particularly focusing on the needs of Veterans * Assist in the coordination of medication therapy management (MTM) programs, helping to organize patient records and facilitate pharmacist reviews * Provide basic medication information and instructions to patients and nursing staff under the supervision of a pharmacist, ensuring clear understanding of dosage schedules and medication use * Maintain rigorous compliance with state and federal regulations concerning pharmacy operations, particularly those specific to a Veterans' care environment * Participate in quality assurance processes, including medication error reporting and resolution, to continually improve pharmacy services * Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the pharmacy area, adhering to infection control and safety guidelines to protect patients and staff * Support pharmacy operations by managing logs and records of medication dispensing, inventory transactions, and patient interactions * Participate in educational opportunities to stay informed about the latest pharmacy practices and innovations, especially those relevant to geriatric and Veteran care * Assist in the implementation of pharmacy information systems and technology to streamline pharmacy operations and enhance patient care * Work closely with healthcare providers, including doctors, nurses, and other medical staff, to ensure a cohesive approach to patient care * Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions on patient care plans, offering insights from a pharmacy perspective * Engage in continuous learning about the specific health needs of Veterans, including understanding the complexities of their health conditions and the impact of medication on their care Avalon Health Care Group is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
