Description
Overview Assists the clinical pharmacists in providing an accurate and timely medication distribution system. Oversees the work of a team of Pharmacy Technicians that are responsible for the following activities: Assist clinical pharmacists in providing an accurate and timely medication distribution system. Receives, stickers and stocks daily medication order. Ensures bar code recognition in facility systems. Performs medication cabinet refill and out-of-date check on all items. Maintains assigned nursing station med room in compliance with policy. Troubleshoots medication cabinet issues and resolves when possible. Investigates any controlled substance discrepancy in assigned area. Repackages medications into unit-dose packaging and documents appropriate lot number and expiration labeling. Performs non-sterile compounding of optical and oral products. Performs sterile compounding of intravenous products utilizing aseptic technique. Develops work schedules and trains new pharmacy technicians. A wide degree of creativity and latitude are expected. Reports to the Director of Pharmacy. Qualifications Education: High School diploma or GED required. License/Certification: • Must be registered with the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician within 30 days of hire date, and registration must be in good standing. • National certification with PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) or ExCPT (Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians) required. • In the case of PTCB or ExCPT renewal, "active" status must be attained 30 days of the expiration of the current certification (this provides 30 day grace period for the employee) About Us DeKalb Regional Medical Center celebrated its 35th anniversary in October 2021.
