Job Title: Pharmacy Technician

Accountable to: Associate Director of Pharmacy

Responsibilities:

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:

To provide quality, effective pharmacy services to improve patient care, including technical and clinical services, and to assist in the education and training of pharmacy and nursing staff. The role also involves promoting the further development of the pharmacy technician’s role within the Trust.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide a high-quality service, ensuring reliability in routine dispensing and competence in non-routine tasks such as advising patients/carers on medication and handling routine drug queries.
  • Participate in accuracy checking of dispensed items, including clinical trials.
  • Develop and participate in ward-based duties, including medicines reconciliation and assessing patient-own drugs (PODs).
  • Take a lead role in coordinating clozapine supply, ensuring timely communication between all relevant stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of pharmacy policies and procedures.
  • Supervise and train new staff, apprentices, assistants, and student technicians.
  • Deliver post-graduate level training to pharmacy graduates and qualified nursing staff.
