Description The pharmacy technician assists the pharmacist in preparing and distributing drugs, maintaining the drug inventory and maintenance of records. Pharmacy technicians work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. They do not perform duties that can only legally be performed by a registered pharmacist. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Demonstrates a commitment to the philosophy of Hillsboro Health to continually improve our performance to those we serve. Procures and distributes drug orders by provider request, pharmacist request or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures and protocols, and within specified timeframe. Maintains adequate stock of medications and supplies according to established policies, procedures and protocols and within specific timeframe. Maintain patient profiles accurately by promptly entering new orders and changes from providers. Contributes to the effective operation of the department. Manages Pyxis MedStation. Participate in the quality improvement activities of the department. Participates in improvement activities that affect the pharmacy inventory and cost. Maintains competency required for current job title/position. Prepares intravenous sterile preparations and chemotherapy once appropriately trained. Perform patient interviews face-to-face or by phone, as needed, to obtain an accurate medication history to aid in the Admission Medication Reconciliation Process. Ability to perform work accurately with attention to detail within specified times. Ability to work cooperatively with hospital and pharmacy staff. Effectively communicates with providers, nurses, pharmacists, hospital personnel, and patients. Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule. Ability to set priorities and solve problems. Fosters a team environment by providing orientation and training to new team members. Ability to meet the pharmaceutical care needs of pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric, rehabilitation and skilled-nursing patients. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES None Requirements EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE High School graduate or equivalent. Hospital and IV compounding experience preferred. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Valid technician licensure through the State of Illinois. Certification from the Pharmacy Technician Board PHYSICAL DEMANDS Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., preparing IV admixtures, use of a computer keyboard). May require medium lifting and carrying light loads (not more than 25 lbs.) and stooping or kneeling. Walking or standing for long periods of time (4-8 hours) is sometimes necessary. Must be able to physically operate the equipment used in the job.
