This is a full-time, a 40-hour work week, onsite position. The schedule runs from 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM, and includes working every other weekend, along with a minimum of two holiday shifts per year.

Responsibilities

GENERAL DUTIES

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and adequately stocked work environment.
  • Ensure safe and secure storage of all medications in compliance with Department of Health, The Joint Commission, and State Board of Pharmacy regulations.
  • Comply with Federal and State laws (e.g., HIPAA), OSHA regulations, and PBM contracting requirements (e.g., FWA and CMS).
  • Maintain all required documentation, including:
  • Eye wash logs
  • Refrigerator logs
  • Perpetual inventory logs
  • Participate in departmental quality improvement activities to enhance pharmaceutical care.
  • Use computer systems to process and maintain patient information and pharmacy records.
  • Finalize sales using the cash register and follow proper cash handling procedures.
  • Audit and maintain accurate records for controlled substances, ensuring compliance with all regulations.
  • Procure and maintain adequate inventory levels in:
  • Pharmacy medication stock rooms
  • Automated medication carousels
  • Automated dispensing machines
  • Provide and receive information via phone, in person, or in writing to hospital personnel, patients, and visitors. Refer drug information questions to Staff Pharmacists.
  • Maintain and update:
  • Automated medication stations
  • Unit and department stock
  • Emergency boxes
  • Crash carts

FILLING DUTIES

  • Work in the Sterile Product area preparing cytotoxic and hazardous drugs (e.g., chemotherapy) using proper aseptic technique.
  • Assist in filling medication orders through correct labeling, counting, and stocking practices. Initial and date products as required.
  • Prepare oral and injectable medications (including IV admixtures and TPN) for the correct patient at the appropriate time using proper technique.

DISTRIBUTION DUTIES

  • Develop and maintain positive and productive service relationships during medication distribution.
  • Participate in the distribution of medications, including:
  • Medication cassettes
  • Emergency medication carts
  • Delivery of controlled substances per policy and regulations
  • Retrieve discontinued medications and return/credit them to the appropriate pharmacy area.

INVESTIGATIONAL DUTIES

  • Assist in the procurement, accountability, storage, preparation, and distribution of investigational and study drugs.
