Description PURPOSE STATEMENT Pharmacy Technician assist pharmacists in preparing, distributing and dispensing medications, maintaining the medication inventory, and maintaining patient records. Pharmacy Technicians work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Procure and distribute medications per order, pharmacist request or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures and protocols. Maintain adequate stock of medications and supplies according to established policies and procedures. Maintain adequate documentation as required by law and regulation. Contribute to the effective operation of the department. Participate in the quality improvement activities of the department. Maintain competence required for current job title/position. Perform other duties as assigned by the director. Requirements EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS High school diploma or equivalent. Registration with Missouri Board of Pharmacy or eligible to become registered with the Missouri Board of Pharmacy. Previous pharmacy tech experience is required. Must have attention to detail, excellent customer service skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have the ability to work independently as well as part of a team, ability to prioritize and problem solve, ability to mathematically compute and convert drug concentrations and doses. Completion of an accredited pharmacy technician training program preferred. PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS Must be able to sit and stand, intermittent 8 to 10 hours a day. Must be able to use standard office equipment, including the telephone and computer keyboard. Continuously works under pressure of near 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines. Continuously utilizes manual/bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing. Frequently stands, walks, sits and utilizes eye/hand coordination and color definition. Occasionally reaches above shoulder, regularly required to life and/or carry up to 40 lbs. Occasionally walks on uneven surfaces.
