Responsibilities Perform venipuncture and pediatric heel-stick blood collection in accordance with established guidelines, safety standards, and hospital policies. Complete scheduled blood draws within expected timeframes during assigned shifts. Verify patient identity and accurately label specimens with correct patient information and test orders. Collaborate with nursing staff and other laboratory and hospital personnel to ensure specimen quality and prevent mislabeling. Provide outpatient phlebotomy services while maintaining patient comfort, safety, and professionalism. Enter, verify, and update patient orders in the laboratory information system as required. Process and prepare specimens for transport and shipment following established protocols. Perform additional administrative and operational duties as assigned Requirements EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE Education and Work Experience: Must possess a high school diploma or GED Passed an accredited course in phlebotomy including clinical experience (completed required phlebotomy hours and number of succesful sticks) and/or have 1 year of continuous phlebotomy experience In patient phlebotomy experience preferred but not required SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS License Requirements: N/A Certification Requirements: Not required Age Specific Care Provided For: Neo-natal Pediatrics Adolescents Adults Geriatrics Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel Microsoft Outlook Epic (if applicable to position) Performance Manager/NetLearning Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to utilize one or more of the following: Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language in an understandable manner. Must be able to work independently and possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. Must possess the ability to effectively communicate and deal tactfully with other personnel, visitors, patients, physicians, customers, and the general public. Must be flexible, have personal integrity, and the ability to function effectively as a team with other employees. Must be able to follow written and oral instructions. Other Requirements: Must possess skills in patient and customer relations, computer literacy. Must be able to perform venipuncture and processing of lab samples for in-house and reference laboratory testing. Operate simple medical laboratory equipment i.e. centrifuge.
