JOB SUMMARY:   Obtains specimens, identifying, accessioning and distributing them within department standards and hospital policies and procedures. Phlebotomy, clerical and courier functions as assigned.  High level of confidentiality required.   ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:   The following is a summary of the essential functions of this job.  The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below; and specific functions may change from time to time.   1.   1. Collects specimens from patients in a manner that supports the guest      relations policy of the hospital.  Using 2 identifiers.      1. Identify, accession and distribute samples within department      policy and procedure.         1. Prepare samples properly for testing by reference laboratory in      appropriate fashion. (ie: DHL, Airborne, Fedex, US Mail, etc.)      1. Provide courier/phlebotomy services to outside accounts utilizing      private or corporate owned vehicle.      1. Insures that adequate supplies are available to complete anticipated      volume of testing.      1. Follows safety and infection control policies of the laboratory and      all other hospital and department policies and procedures.   1. Participates in all mandated inservice programs on an annual basis.   1. Demonstrates excellence in customer service skills.   1. Fosters an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration.   1. Participates in quality improvement activities including serving on      quality improvement teams.   1. Other duties that may be assigned.      1. Complies with Corporate Policies, Departmental Policies and      Procedures and Personnel Employee Handbook.   1. Stocks and cleans work areas as required.   1. Performs general clerical duties, including filing, answering      phones, greeting all customers, distributing patient reports.   1. Provide courier services as directed by supervisor to outside      accounts, utilizing private or corporate owned vehicles. Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS:   The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job.  Preferred: Phlebotomy training from a Licensed Program.     EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING:   Completion of high school or equivalent (plus certification by ASCP desirable).  Must have a valid driver's license with a good driving record.       WORK EXPERIENCE:   Three to six months preferred.
