Under the supervision of the Phlebotomy Supervisor, the Phlebotomist ensures accurate specimen collection, labeling, and handling. They maintain a clean environment, support patient comfort and safety, and help educate and reassure patients during procedures. * Specimen Collection: Accurately interprets provider test orders and follows approved standard operating procedures for all specimen collections. * Specimen Accessioning: Accurately uses the HIS and LIS for patient registration and test order entry. * Specimen Processing: * Evaluates provider test orders and collects specimens for acceptability and determines rejections according to established guidelines. * Accurately labels aliquot samples as required. * Recognizes and corrects defects before they are passed on to the next step of the process. * Computer: Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in the use of the HIS and LIS software systems in all job-related functions. * Team Member Training: Assists with training of team members and students. * Patient Experience/Customer Service: Models compassionate, patient-centered care by ensuring comfort during specimen collection, addressing concerns with empathy, and maintaining a professional, respectful demeanor to enhance the overall patient experience.
