Description Job Summary: Receives, obtains and processes specimens for laboratory analysis on all patient age groups. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Collect and process venous and capillary samples from all patient age groups. Perform and document therapeutic phlebotomies. Document and record samples/results. Accession and process referral testing samples. Maintain records, files and route patient reports. Perform clerical duties as assigned. Participate and promote QA activities. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: As assigned. KNOWLEDGE/SKILL/ABILITIES: Phlebotomy skill and competency. AGE-RELATED COMPETENCIES: Demonstrates the basic knowledge and skills necessary to identify age-specific patient needs appropriate for this position. Information Management: Treats all information and data within the scope of the position with appropriate confidentiality and security. Risk Management/Quality Management/Safety: Cooperates fully in all Risk Management, Quality Management, and Safety Activities and Investigations. MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: Education – High school graduate or equivalent; formal phlebotomy training preferred. Work Experience – 6 months phlebotomy preferred. Training – N/A License/Certification – Certified Phlebotomist, CMA, EMT-B preferred. ENVIROMENTAL CONDITIONS: Work environment consists of daily patient contact, which may include exposure to blood, or other body fluids.
Responsibilities
The Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting and processing venous and capillary samples from patients of all age groups. They also document and record samples and results, maintain records, and participate in quality assurance activities.
