The Mill Medical Practice is a well-established practice located on the outskirts of Godalming and covering a population of over 17,000 patients. We are a successful, training practice with seven GP Partners and four Salaried Doctors. We are extremely proud of our excellent Administrative and Clinical Team. We provide high quality clinical care, rating outstanding in our last CQC inspection. We use EMIS Web, Docman and EPS. The Successful candidate will join our existing team which includes Management, Administrators, Nurses, Healthcare Assistants, Clinical Pharmacist and through our PCN a Care Coordinator, Clinical Pharmacist and First Contact Physiotherapist.
We are looking to appoint a highly motivated phlebotomist. You will be working under the direction of the lead nurse and as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, the post holder will be responsible for performing venepuncture, as requested by the clinical team, to the entitled patient population. In addition, the Phlebotomist will be expected to support the nursing team on an as required basis.

The following are the core responsibilities of the Phlebotomist. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

  • Obtaining patient consent for the collection of a blood sample
  • Performing venepuncture in accordance with practice protocols
  • Maintaining accurate patient records on Emis web
  • The correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples
  • Effective use of the specimen log, resolving any discrepancies
  • Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner
  • Maintaining an effective liaison with the laboratory staff at relevant hospital trusts
  • Chaperoning duties
  • Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses
  • Sterilising, cleansing and maintenance of surgical equipment
  • Arranging 24hr BP Monitor/Cardiac Event Monitor/ IGT Recall
  • Fitting of 24hr BP Monitor/Cardiac Event Monitor
  • Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
  • Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation
  • Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
  • Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations
  • Working collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for patient related matters

In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Phlebotomist may be requested to:

  • Participate in practice audit as directed by the audit lead
  • Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care
  • Support and participate in shared learning within the practice
  • Complete opening and closing procedures in accordance with the Enhanced Access Hours.
