Join Our Team as a Casual Phlebotomist – UPMC Community Osteopathic UPMC Community Osteopathic is hiring a Casual Phlebotomist to work day and evening shifts, including every third weekend and holiday. In this role, you’ll perform accurate and timely specimen collection for inpatients and outpatients—supporting quality diagnoses and patient care—while also assisting with essential lab operations such as computer entry, courier duties, and clerical tasks. Working closely with experienced Medical Technologists, you’ll play a vital role in delivering excellent laboratory services and patient outcomes. Responsibilities: Greets and communicates with all laboratory customers courteously and professionally, responding promptly to phone inquiries. Collects blood specimens by venipuncture, heelstick, or fingerstick, and instructs patients on self-collection when needed. Demonstrates reliability, sound judgment, and flexibility in meeting departmental priorities. Performs specimen collection and safe transport from on-site and off-site locations to the laboratory. Adheres to all laboratory and hospital policies, including quality control, safety, hand hygiene, and compliance standards. Completes clerical and computer tasks such as data entry, order processing, and verifying patient and sample information. Trains and orients new staff, students, and residents as assigned. Reports unusual or problematic incidents to technical or supervisory staff promptly. May perform arterial punctures following strict collection and post-collection procedures. Maintains appropriate supply levels and uses materials responsibly to support cost-effective operations. High school diploma or equivalent is required. Certification from an accredited Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant program is preferred. Minimum 6 months experience performing phlebotomy is preferred. Medical terminology knowledge and laboratory information system experience preferred. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: Phlebotomy Technician (PBT(ASCP)) or equivalent certification preferred.
