Description
This is an exciting part-time, 20-hour per week opportunity at UPMC Lock Haven for a Phlebotomist. The role also includes clerical and courier responsibilities under the supervision of medical technologists. The shift varies between day and evening house: 6:00AM - 2:30PM and 2:00PM - 10:00PM. Employee will rotate every other weekend and holiday coverage. While phlebotomy experience is not required, it is strongly preferred, along with prior healthcare experience. Key Responsibilities: Provide courteous and professional service to all laboratory customers, including timely phone support. Collect blood specimens via venipuncture, heelstick, or fingerstick, and instruct patients on self-collection procedures when needed. Transport specimens safely from on- and off-site locations to the lab. Follow all hospital and lab policies related to safety, hygiene, quality control, and compliance. Perform clerical and computer tasks such as entering patient data, test orders, and managing sample information. Train and orient new staff, students, or residents as assigned. Notify technical staff or supervisors of any unusual incidents. May perform arterial punctures following strict guidelines. Monitor and maintain supplies, using materials cost-effectively. Demonstrate reliability, sound judgment, and adaptability to department needs. High school diploma or equivalent is required. Certification from an accredited Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant program is preferred. Minimum 6 months experience performing phlebotomy is preferred. Medical terminology knowledge and laboratory information system experience preferred. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: Phlebotomy Technician (PBT(ASCP)) or equivalent certification preferred.
