Description POSITION TITLE: Phlebotomist CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt DEPARTMENT: Tribal Health SUPERVISOR: Clinical Lab Manager GRADE: NE9 $17.84 ($37,107.20) - $26.76 ($56,660.80) Position Summary: Under direct supervision, the Phlebotomist performs community health work that is related to prevention and wellness, and performs as a lab assistant. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: · Provides Health Education/Counseling, Health Promotion/Disease Prevention, and monitors patients. · Makes home visits, transports patients, and delivers supplies and/or medications, as needed. · Assists as needed with taking and recording vital signs. · Performs duties of lab assistant including but are not limited to conducting patient interviews, drawing blood samples, performing in-house lab testing services, finger-stick blood tests, test dipstick urine samples, urine Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG), Rapid Strep Screen, and other CLIA waived tests, as needed. · Maintains proper control of laboratory equipment, and performs related clerical duties. · Perform other duties as required. Requirements Minimum Qualifications: · High school diploma or GED · Certified Phlebotomist and/or one-year phlebotomy experience. · Documentation or demonstration of strong ties to WTHC patients · Must be agreeable to contractual obligation to WTHC service if WTHC funds are used for certification education · Must be Basic Life Support (BLS) certified within thirty (30) days of hire. · Must be insurable through the Tribe’s medical malpractice insurance policy Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications: · Knowledge of health related issues, medical terminology, and health care education. · Knowledge of medical/dental terminology preferred. · Knowledge of the functions and structure of the Washoe Tribe. · Ability to physically lift, stand, and assist patients when transporting. · Ability to use wheelchairs or walkers when necessary with patients. · Ability and skills to effectively interview patients and to write clearly. · Ability to be patient with Elders and all other patients. · Ability to communicate effectively in the English language both verbally and in writing. · Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels. · Ability to maintain confidentiality. · Ability to carry out instructions furnished in verbal or written format. · Ability to work independently and meet strict timelines. · Skill in operating business computers and office machines in a Windows environment, specifically Microsoft 365, Word, Excel, Access, etc. · Skill entering data into electronic health record (EHR) systems · Ability to represent the organization professionally, building respect and confidence in Tribal and professional communities. · Knowledge of HIPAA and how it pertains to the medical record. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit and stand for long periods; use hands and arms to finger, handle, or feel, and to reach. The employee occasionally is required to operate a motor vehicle; walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must assist with lifting patients, which may require using leverage to lift and/or move clients. Work Environment: Work is generally performed in an office setting with a moderate noise level. The Washoe Tribe of Nevada & California requires a background check of each new hire for employment purposes.
