Responsibilities
  • Supervise, assess, and direct the activities of lab assistants.
  • Assist manager with hiring, orientation, scheduling, performance evaluations, disciplinary action recommendations and compliance with laboratory/organizational policies and procedures.
  • Establish clear performance expectations and hold staff accountable for successful job performance and work behavior.
  • Oversight of Phlebotomy and Processing training program.
  • Respond to issues and concerns from patients, providers, and staff in a timely manner.
  • Works with leadership team to review and update procedures, policies, and job aids.
  • Ensure employee competencies and certifications are up to date. Plans and coordinates remedial training as needed.
  • Participate in inspections and surveys, including but not limited to CAP (College of American Pathologist), DNV, and DOH.
  • Support service and laboratory goals, service efficiency, and effectiveness through such activities as participating in problem-solving, demonstrating support for policies, sharing expertise, and contributing to project work and improvement activities.
  • Implements corrective actions recommended by Medical Lab Director/Lab Management Team to remain in compliance with CLIA regulations and other regulatory/accrediting bodies.
  • Maintains competency in all aspects of the Laboratory Assistant I, Laboratory Assistant II, and Laboratory Assistant III roles.
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by Laboratory Management Team.
  • Required to maintain active Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.
