NATURE AND SCOPE: Under the direction of the Wellness Director, the Physical Education Coordinator is responsible for the administrative and programmatic support of physical education courses for the Drew Charter Lower school (K-5) operation at the East Lake Family YMCA in collaboration with Drew Charter staff. This position is a partnership funded position with yearly renewal evaluation. RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to): Prioritizes Youth and Teen Safety and ensures all safety protocols are followed each day to support the transition of students from Drew Charter to the Y. Set up and breakdown of used equipment and spaces and supports Drew Charter staff reserve spaces as needed. Encourage social skills and interaction with all students and participants in collaboration with Drew Charter staff. Communicate with the Wellness Director about any concerns or incidents that may need follow-up. Maintain positive relations with parents, students, and Drew Charter staff. Provide guidance, safety, leadership, education, and enjoyment for students in the physical education program. Carry out daily program tasks related directly to the position of scope and responsibility. Promote, monitor, evaluate, and ensure that all physical education programs run smoothly with a high level of service to students. Maintain branch and association certifications in CPR, Metro Atlanta YMCA New Staff Orientation and Branch off-site Emergency procedures and any other required certifications and/or training required by the Metro Atlanta YMCA. Assist as needed in all aspects of the YMCA and its community. Responsible for maintaining and reporting incident/accident paperwork. Other duties as assigned REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or GED and 1+ years of related experience in education, sports, coaching, fitness, or Wellness related field 1+ years of experience working with children in a group/instructional setting Minimum age of 21 High degree of human relation skills: ability to effectively communicate with a diverse group of students and staff in a physical education setting in a primarily indoor setting A moderate level of understanding of technology and computers to assist in administrative processes to support programs and metrics related to physical education Ability to handle multiple tasks, work collaboratively, problem solve and possess effective time management skills Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community Within 30 days of hire, completion of Child Abuse Prevention, Working with Program Volunteers, CPR, First Aid, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens training. PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: Degree or certification in early education, sports, fitness, or wellness (bachelor's degree, associate degree, CDA, or paraprofessional certificate 2+ years of experience working with children K-5 in a group/instructional setting Work Environment & Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
