Description Position Summary The Physical Education (PE) Teacher supports the mission of the school by fostering the physical, moral, and spiritual development of students through athletics, movement, and healthy living. The teacher promotes habits of discipline, perseverance, teamwork, and sportsmanship while modeling Christian virtue and respect for the dignity of every person. The PE program emphasizes the formation of the whole person—body, mind, and soul—encouraging students to develop physical fitness alongside virtues such as courage, humility, temperance, and fortitude. Key Responsibilities Instruction & Curriculum Plan and deliver engaging physical education lessons for students in grades K-8 Teach fundamental movement skills, fitness concepts, sports, and lifelong physical wellness. Design activities that build teamwork, discipline, leadership, and resilience. Differentiate instruction to meet varied student abilities and developmental levels. Integrate Catholic virtues and character formation into physical education activities. Virtue Formation Model Christian virtue, integrity, and respect in all interactions. Teach and reinforce virtues such as: Industriousness Concord Magnanimity Wisdom Encourage healthy competition that respects the dignity of all participants. Student Development & Safety Maintain a safe and structured environment for all physical activities. Teach proper techniques to prevent injury. Promote healthy habits, including physical activity, nutrition awareness, and self-care. Monitor student progress in fitness and skill development. Community & School Life Support the mission and Catholic identity of the school. Participate in school Masses, prayer, and virtue formation initiatives. Collaborate with faculty to reinforce virtue education across subjects. Communicate regularly with parents about student progress and wellness. Assist with school athletic programs, events, or clubs as needed. Professional Responsibilities Maintain accurate records of attendance and student progress. Uphold school policies and discipline consistent with Catholic teachings. Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events. Maintain and organize physical education equipment and facilities. Requirements Required Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or related field. Teaching credential or ability to obtain one (depending on state requirements). Commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education. Ability to foster a positive, structured, and encouraging learning environment. Practicing Catholic Preferred Experience teaching physical education in elementary or secondary school. CPR/First Aid certification. Experience coaching school athletics.
