TaOtha School, part of the Stoney Education Authority, is committed to supporting student success through academic excellence, Stoney language and culture, and land-based learning. We are seeking a dedicated, energetic, and student-centered Physical Education Teacher to join our team.
Position Summary
The Physical Education Teacher will be responsible for planning and delivering a comprehensive physical education program that promotes student wellness, fitness, teamwork, and life-long healthy living. This role requires a teacher who can inspire students, integrate land-based and cultural activities, and foster a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, deliver, and assess Physical Education programs for students in [insert grade levels, e.g., K–12 or 6–12].
  • Promote physical literacy, sportsmanship, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles.
  • Incorporate outdoor education and land-based activities into lessons where possible.
  • Supervise and coach school teams, intramurals, and extracurricular physical activity opportunities.
  • Collaborate with staff to integrate Stoney language and culture into physical education.
  • Maintain a safe and supportive environment in the gymnasium, outdoor spaces, and on field trips.
  • Participate in school-wide initiatives, professional development, and community engagement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Education degree with a specialization or major in Physical Education.
  • Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate (or eligibility for certification).
  • Experience teaching Physical Education at the elementary and/or secondary level.
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills.
  • Ability to integrate Indigenous perspectives, values, and land-based learning into teaching practice.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification (preferred).
  • Coaching experience in a variety of sports and activities (asset).
