Description

Job Description
Wihnemne School, located on the Paul First Nation (30 minutes west of Edmonton) is actively seeking a full time Physical Education teacher.
Wihnemne School is a First Nations School, we are a small school - approx. 200 students and have one classroom per grade-Kindergarten through Grade 9. We follow the Curriculum guidelines as set out by Alberta Education but also infuse Traditional Games and knowledge.
The Physical education (PE) teacher will organize games, challenges, and activities that promote physical activity among children and young adults from Kindergarten to grade 9. Their goal is to develop confidence in motor skills and physical development, proper exercise and healthy habits among all students. The job description of a PE teacher sometimes includes organizing and managing team sports, particularly at the elementary/Junior High school level (attending tournaments with neighboring schools). PE teachers must also adjust their curricula to adapt to children with disabilities or different physical abilities in order to create a positive experience for all students.
The physical education teacher job description includes responsibilities such as planning, organizing and delivering lessons consistent with the physical education curriculum of their students’ grade level. Their passion for sport, physical activity and healthy living should motivate, inspire and educate students as to the benefits of these practices, which include joy and social interaction for the participants.
Like all instructors, PE teachers must have strong speaking and listening skills. Besides being knowledgeable about an activity, they need to be able to communicate and demonstrate it properly. PE teachers must be able to observe all their students and maintain discipline within the class. A physical education teacher job description may also include interacting with parents, other teachers, and school administrators and creating year and unit plans, as well as participate in report cards each term. The PhysEd teacher is responsible to maintain a clean and organized storage room.
