JOB SUMMARY

The Home Office works to build a safe, fair and prosperous UK. We achieve this through our work on counter-terrorism, policing, crime, drugs policy, immigration and passports.
The Chief Operating Officer Group works closely with the Home Office’s policy and operational commands to enable us together to deliver the department’s priorities. The group is comprised of different teams and professional functions, including Commercial, Finance, People, Portfolio and Project Delivery, Security, Estates and Information and Digital, Data and Technology.
The Physical Security team are responsible for protecting Home Office assets through effective security advice, engagement with delivery partners and strategic leadership.
The successful candidate will form part of the senior security advisory team and be responsible for ensuring the safety and effectiveness of Home Office operations across the UK. This is a critical and varied role which has a considerable effect on the day-to-day operation of the wider Home Office and wider business objectives.
This is a diverse and exciting role, for which additional training can be provided, along with mentoring ensuring you are fully supported within the role.
Please note: Duties will be customer-facing and a mix of office-based, indoor and outdoor site assessments.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The team is currently compromised of four senior physical security advisors who ensure physical security recommendations are successfully assessed and delivered across projects in line with Cabinet Office Minimum Physical Security Standards (MPSS), Functional Standard Gov007 and NPSA guidance.
The physical security advisors are based across the UK and help nurture a collaborative and supportive culture and team ethos.

SELECTION PROCESS DETAILS

1. Application – by 22nd September 2025

As part of the application process, you will be asked to complete:

  • CV.
  • Personal Statement (maximum 750 words).
  • Evidence of the Behaviour Delivering at Pace (maximum of 250 words per Behaviour).

Your CV should consist of your career history and skills/experience, including any key achievements in each role. Your CV will be scored against the experience required for the role as noted within the essential criteria.
The Personal Statement should be aligned to and demonstrate how you meet the skills and experience set out in the essential criteria, detailed in the job description.

2. Sift – week commencing 29th September 2025
The sift will be held on the CV, Personal Statement and Behaviour.
Should a high volume of applications be received, an initial sift will be conducted on the lead Behaviour Delivering at Pace. Candidates who pass the initial sift will then be progressed to a full sift that will consist of the CV and Personal Statement.
3. Interview – week commencing 20th October 2025
If you are successful at sift stage, you will be invited to an interview that will be Behaviour (as listed in the job advert) based questions.
The interview will take place on Teams.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing advice concerning the physical security solutions for the protection of Home Office buildings, staff, operations and assets. This includes:

  • Developing and maintaining effective working relationships across Home Office business areas and other delivery stakeholders.
  • Engaging senior stakeholders including site Senior Responsible Officers and Estates colleagues to evaluate risks and deliver bespoke, value for money security solutions to meet Home Office strategic goals and enable business areas.
  • Managing relationships at a strategic, operational and tactical level to educate stakeholders on how to manage threats with risk-based physical security recommendations.
