JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Security Operations Specialist, this role supports the design, integration, maintenance, and continuous improvement of physical security systems across the corporate structure. Working collaboratively with IT network and cybersecurity teams, the Physical Security Systems Analyst ensures effective implementation and maintenance of physical security technologies—including access control systems (ACS), intrusion detection systems (IDS), and video management systems (VMS). These systems primarily operate on the Corporate Security VLAN (for video) and other city or commercial networks. The analyst contributes technical expertise to system troubleshooting, infrastructure planning, and technology evaluations in a dynamic and evolving IT environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Security Management, Security Systems Engineering, Information Systems, or a directly related discipline.
  • Minimum of six years of progressive technical experience designing, implementing, and maintaining integrated enterprise physical security systems in a multi-site, high-availability environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in physical security systems integration.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Preferred certifications: PSP (Physical Security Professional), CPP (Certified Protection Professional), and vendor-specific credentials (e.g., Honeywell, Milestone, Lenel, Avigilon, DSC, AXIS).
  • Demonstrated track record with managing complex ACS, intrusion and VMS systems in large-scale, multi-site environments.Strong understanding of IP networking (TCP/IP, VLANs, PoE), directory services (Active Directory/LDAP), and secure network communication protocols.
  • Deep knowledge of physical security system standards and protocols: OSDP v2, Wiegand, ONVIF, SIA standards, and relevant ANSI/ASIS frameworks.
  • Familiarity with scripting, data analysis, and API usage for system integrations (e.g., RESTful APIs, SQL queries, Power BI dashboards) to support physical security data operations.
  • Strong technical writing skills for documentation, proposal development, and system architecture narratives.
  • Ability to interpret architectural drawings and translate system requirements into practical solutions.
  • Comprehensive troubleshooting expertise in physical security ecosystems with the ability to diagnose root causes of complex hardware/software/network failures.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in cross-functional teams, aligning technical decisions with long-term infrastructure goals.
  • Commitment to staying current with physical security trends, technologies, and compliance standards, and applying them to system improvements.
Responsibilities
  • Participate in the implementation of physical security solutions that integrate ACS, IDS, and VMS platforms with segmented IT infrastructure. Support the maintenance of system architectures that align with IT environments, credentialing platforms, and network security models.
  • Support system lifecycle activities including requirements gathering, vendor coordination, installation oversight, technical validation, and operational deployment.
  • Configure and maintain access control systems, including support for secure credentialing protocols such as OSDP v2 and Wiegand.
  • Manage access control platforms by implementing role-based permissions, credential workflows, and system configurations in alignment with IT and cybersecurity policies.
  • Support the deployment and configuration of CCTV systems using enterprise-grade VMS platforms and compatible hardware, ensuring alignment with operational requirements.
  • Assist with camera configuration and system setup; coordinate with IT for network-related tasks such as PoE management and video storage optimization.
  • Collaborate with IT and data teams to support SSO.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues in intrusion detection systems, including sensor calibration, firmware updates, and component replacement.
  • Utilize Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) software to track physical security assets, schedule preventative maintenance, and support reporting on system performance.
  • Maintain technical documentation including system diagrams, floor plans, configuration records, key mapping, and maintenance logs.
  • Evaluate new physical security technologies and provide input on compatibility with existing infrastructure and operational needs.
  • Support pilot projects and contribute to technology evaluations and planning discussions.
  • Supervise third-party contractors by monitoring installations, and ensuring compliance with municipal and IT standards.
  • Conduct field audits and site surveys to assess system performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Stay informed on evolving physical security standards (e.g., ONVIF, OSDP v2, IEEE 802.1X) and contribute to the integration of best practices into citywide systems.
  • Use key management software to support and develop the City’s master key hierarchy, including key issuance, tracking, and lifecycle management across municipal facilities.
