Description
Description Where Collaboration Feels Natural — and Your Work Truly Matters The Village at Summerville | Summerville, South Carolina Faith-Based Nonprofit | In-House Therapy Model | Full-Time A Place Where Teamwork Shapes the Culture and Purpose Shapes the Work At The Village at Summerville, therapy is woven into the heart of the community. As part of Presbyterian Communities of South Carolina (PCSC), you join an in-house therapy model built on mission—not quotas—and a culture rooted in collaboration, trust, and shared purpose. Summerville’s therapy department is known for its positive morale, supportive leadership, and team-first mindset. Long-tenured clinicians work alongside newer professionals, creating an environment where mentorship, innovation, and professional growth happen naturally. Here, you are not simply filling a schedule — you are part of a team helping older adults live with dignity, independence, and meaning. Why Therapists Thrive in Our In-House Therapy Model Choosing PCSC means choosing a fundamentally different therapy experience than most contract therapy providers. 1. Clinical Care Guided by Therapists: Treatment decisions are driven by clinical judgment and resident goals, not corporate productivity mandates or predetermined group therapy percentages. 2. A Strong Interdisciplinary Team: Therapists are fully integrated into the life of the community, collaborating daily with physicians, nursing, social services, and fellow therapists to ensure residents receive coordinated, thoughtful care. 3. Stability in a Mission-Driven Nonprofit: PCSC has successfully operated its in-house therapy model for more than six years, resulting in: i. Low therapist turnover ii. Highly stable staffing iii. Consistent CMS 5-Star quality ratings iv. Recognition by U.S. News & World Report as Best Nursing Homes for Short-Term Rehabilitation A True PT–PTA Partnership Model At The Village at Summerville, Physical Therapists and Physical Therapist Assistants work in close clinical partnership rather than separate roles. Our department intentionally maintains a 1:1 PT to PTA ratio, allowing for ongoing collaboration, shared clinical reasoning, and meaningful dialogue around patient care. This structure allows PTs and PTAs to work together as a cohesive clinical team, where treatment plans evolve through observation, discussion, and shared insight. This model provides: i. Regular collaboration on treatment progression and patient response ii. Real-time dialogue around clinical decision-making and mobility strategies iii. Strong mentorship and skill development for PTAs iv. Greater continuity of care for residents Many PTAs say this environment allows them to practice confidently while continuing to sharpen their clinical skills through daily collaboration with their supervising Physical Therapist. What Makes Summerville Unique The Village at Summerville combines the resources of a large therapy department with the warmth of a close-knit team culture. 1. A Strong Short-Term Rehab Program: PTAs work with engaging and medically complex patients recovering from orthopedic surgery, neurological conditions, and acute medical illness. With a strong team of experienced clinicians and a collaborative PT/PTA partnership model, therapists gain valuable exposure to a wide range of diagnoses while sharpening clinical decision-making and treatment skills. 2. Outpatient Therapy on Campus: Our outpatient clinic allows therapists to balance their day between short-term rehab residents and outpatient clients, gaining valuable experience across the continuum of care without ever leaving the building. 3. A Campus Designed for Clinical Variety: Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care, and Skilled Nursing all share one campus, allowing therapists to treat a diverse patient population while maintaining continuity of care. 4. Real Opportunities for Growth: Educational funding and leadership support allow therapists to pursue specialty training in areas such as: i. Vestibular rehabilitation ii. Neurological rehabilitation iii. Fall prevention and balance programs iv. Dementia care v. Other clinical specialties driven by therapist interest Leadership That Invests in Your Growth Your Director of Rehab leads with a strengths-based philosophy centered on growth, purpose, and accountability. Team members often describe the leadership style as supportive, approachable, and deeply invested in helping clinicians succeed. Clinicians frequently share that their Director of Rehab: i. Encourages curiosity and learning ii. Celebrates progress and professional development iii. Maintains a positive environment for both residents and staff iv. Models the reliability and work ethic expected from the team A Stable Team That Invests in Each Other One of the first things clinicians notice about Summerville is the stability of the therapy team. Many therapists have chosen to build long-term careers here, creating a department where mentorship, collaboration, and trust develop naturally over time. For newer clinicians, this means learning alongside experienced colleagues who enjoy sharing knowledge and supporting professional growth. For experienced therapists, it creates an environment where clinical ideas are respected and teamwork drives patient outcomes. Our in-house therapy model allows therapists to remain rooted within the community, building lasting relationships with residents and colleagues rather than rotating between facilities. A Strong Environment for Growth Whether you are early in your career or bringing years of experience, Summerville offers a supportive environment where therapists learn from one another. Experienced clinicians create a setting where newer therapists can sharpen their skills through collaboration, mentorship, and daily clinical dialogue, while seasoned professionals continue to refine their expertise and help shape the next generation of therapists.
