QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate of the McMaster or Consortium Physician Assistant Program required
  • Baccalaureate or masters in a medically related field preferred
  • Member of Canadian Association of Physician Assistants (CAPA) with professional liability insurance required

SKILL, ABILITY AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience – 3-5 years in the hospital setting, with experience in Mental Health & Addictions required
  • Advanced clinical judgement and comprehensive skills in triage, assessment, examination and treatment, with the ability to effectively adapt to constantly changing and unpredictable situations required
  • Effective interpersonal listening, time management, organizational, teamwork, leadership, problem solving and networking skills required
  • Demonstrated ability in program/service development including planning, implementation, evaluation, and promotion required
  • Knowledge of Physicians Assistants’ Standards of Practice as set out by the Canadian Association of Physician Assistants required
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of adult education skills preferred
  • Creative and innovative in delivery of expert care, with demonstrated skills in project management/change management required
  • Ability to work in a self-directed environment with minimal supervision/direction required
Responsibilities
  • To function as a Physician Assistant working in collaboration with other health care professionals to enhance the provision of quality care in Mental Health & Addiction settings
  • To manage, direct and provide comprehensive health care for individuals and families who need mental health & addictions care
  • To consult with a physician or other expert when the patient’s condition requires care beyond the Physician Assistants’ scope of practice
  • To act as a role model and provide leadership in clinical practice, education, research, and quality management
  • Collaborate with other disciplines to best meet the needs of both the patient and their family
  • Support and embrace the philosophy of Service Excellence and Patient and Family-Centred Care
  • Participate in building a culture of safety and partnering with each other to improve the safety of patient care processes and systems
  • Interact with others in a way that advances the goals of the organization through co-operative working relations
  • Perform reflecting the Mission, Vision, Values and Code of Conduct of Bluewater Health
  • Participates in unit/department and Hospital Quality Improvement initiatives
  • Completes continuing education requirements as necessary
  • Acts as a coach, mentor, resource and positive role model for new staff and students
  • Other related duties as assigned
