JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the physician, Physician Assistant incumbent performs medical diagnostic and treatment in the fields of primary care, reproductive health, eating disorders, and performs minor surgical care for California State University Long Beach (CSULB) students.
Furthermore, the incumbent provides services that are equitable, inclusive and provide culturally sensitive services that enhance the quality of campus life. This position uses a student centered and equity minded approach in all communication and service efforts.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Oral communication skills to communicate diplomatically and effectively with co-workers, staff and departmental staff. Ability to work as part of a team through close collaboration with colleagues and coordinate with others. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and maintain a positive and respectful attitude. Ability to consistently report to work on time prepared to perform the duties of the position. Ability to follow work protocols, safe work practices, and maintain a working knowledge of standard safety procedures.

Complies with SHS policies, procedures, and guidelines. Computer skills strongly preferred for health information technology. Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with university students and convey medical information. Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records. Experience working with a diverse group of individuals, providing professional service. Provides high-quality, evidence-based care services in accordance with the principles of professional practice and ethical conduct.
Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. PHYSICAL SUMMARY

Heavy work - Job involves lifting more than 40 pounds. Approximately half of the incumbent’s time will be spent walking, standing, squatting, kneeling, or climbing.

Responsibilities
  • Provides direct patient care for students with eating disorders. Performs intakes and assessments of students with diagnosed/undiagnosed eating disorders and/or disordered eating
  • Provides primary & reproductive health care services. Adheres to the established hours of clinic operation by being on time and remaining on duty as scheduled unless approved by the Medical Director. Special activities may involve occasional coverage outside usual SHS hours.
