JOB SUMMARY

The Physician Assistant (PA) CV Surgical Specialty is a licensed, certified healthcare provider. They provide direct patient care and have prescriptive authority. They are credentialed, privileged, and billed as an independent provider by Medicare and Medicaid. The Advanced Practice Provider offers medical care based on the supervising physician’s scope of practice.
Surgical providers care for both adult and/or pediatric patients and specialize in Cardio Thoracic/Vascular Surgery.

  • EDUCATION - Grad of an Accredited Program
  • EXPERIENCE - Less than 1 Year of Experience
Responsibilities
  • Assesses patients’ physical and mental condition by performing detailed or focused exams and medical histories. Monitors patients throughout their health care journey. Develops strategies to avoid hospitalization or reduce stay length.
  • Orders, collects, interprets, and evaluates laboratory and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and health care needs.
  • Prescribes or recommends medical drug therapies or other therapeutic treatments. Performs procedures within their scope of practice, training, and experience. Ensures treatments are effective, safe, and cost-efficient. Recommends interventions to change behavior linked to health risks.
  • Formulates and implements patient treatment plans based on assessments and evidence-based medicine. Collaborates with physicians and team members when needed. Evaluates patient’s response to care and its effectiveness.
  • Counsels patients and families about medical procedures, illness management, medication, nutrition, and health promotion. Counsels patients about drug regimens and possible side effects or interactions with food supplements, over-the-counter medications, and herbal remedies.
  • Maintains appropriate records detailing the patient’s treatment plans and outcomes. Initiates timely consultation and referral when the problem exceeds scope of practice or expertise.
  • Provide consultation level services for conditions /problems related to the Provider’s specialty, scope, level of experience, and training.
  • First assist or second assist in the operating room or procedural setting must meet all required training and aptitude levels.
  • Performs follow-ups with patients both pre and post-operatively. May also round on patients in the hospital or see patients in the Emergency Department.
  • Perform invasive or advanced procedures like endoscopic vein harvest for Cardiac, Vascular, and Thoracic surgery. Follow the scope of practice and the provider’s knowledge level as delegated by the supervising Physician.
