Description
The Physician Assistant Intern will work under the direct supervision of an immediately available Attending Physician within a multidisciplinary team in an academic cardiovascular surgery ward and in the cardiac surgery and rapid follow-up clinics. The Physician Assistant will play a major role in facilitating consistent application of clinical protocols and continuity of care, and will also identify patients with acute clinical issues common to pre- and post-op Cardiac Surgical Patients and work within the multidisciplinary team to appropriately manage. The Physician Assistant will provide a full range of physician assistant services in accordance with privileges granted, request consultation or referral with appropriate physicians, clinics, or other health resources as indicated, order diagnostic tests as applicable, prescribe and dispense medications as delineated by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. Required co-signatures and supervision will be required until fully registered with the CPS 1. Graduate of the McMaster or The Consortium Physician Assistant Program 2. Registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) as soon as eligible. 3. Demonstrated ability to work alongside an interprofessional health care team 4. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills 5. Demonstrated ability to promote professional development 6. Demonstrated leadership and critical thinking skills 7.
