Position: Physician Assistant Department: Health Services Reports to: Medical Director Status: Temporary Part-time (50%) JOB SUMMARY:  In this position, a qualified physician assistant (PA) will provide temporary clinical coverage for a period of up to 4 months, which may be extended. Under the direction of a supervising physician, the PA will provide sexual health counseling; assesses, diagnoses and treat sexually transmitted infections; prescribe pre- and post- HIV exposure prophylaxis; and initiates anti-retroviral treatment for patients newly diagnosed with HIV.    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Under the direction of a supervising physician, provides medical care that is trauma-informed, evidence-based, and in accordance with national and internal practice guidelines and standards. 2. Conducts clinical encounters with pre-scheduled and walk-in patients with sexual health needs, including taking a comprehensive history, performing a medication reconciliation, conducting physical exams, developing a differential diagnosis, ordering laboratory studies, prescribing treatment and documenting a follow-up plan. 3. Maintains a full patient schedule. 4. Interprets lab results and documents an appropriate treatment plan, if indicated.  5. Documents in the EHR and “signs-off” on clinical notes, lab results and refill requests in accordance with clinic policy. 6. Responds to messages from patients and care team members in a timely manner. 7. Provides clinical coverage for other providers’ EHR desktops during absences. 8. Exercises professional judgment regarding consultation with Medical Director or supervising physician concerning appropriate diagnosis and treatment. 9. Provides sex-positive and harm-reductive counseling regarding STI prevention. 10. Participates in staff meetings and trainings as directed. 11. Maintains adequate continuing education requirements necessary to maintain current board certification and clinical competence. JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:    1. Active California state Physician Assistant license. 2. Certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. 3. Active and unrestricted DEA license. 4. Current BLS certification 5. Clinical experience providing comprehensive sexual health care and a strong knowledge of the best practices for diagnosing and treating STIs and prescribing PrEP and PEP.   6. Commitment to providing care that is trauma-informed, sex and body positive, and harm reductive. 7.  Experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ+ people 8. Ability to work effectively with diverse populations. 9. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong organizational and interpersonal skills. 10.
