Reporting to the Director, Medical Affairs and Supervising physician(s) for clinical practice, you will work under the supervision/direction of a primary supervising physician and other members of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Medical staff in accordance with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario policy on delegation. The PA will be integrated into the interdisciplinary rehabilitation team and all tasks will be assigned and/or delegated by a member of the Medical Staff based on mutually agreed upon guidelines. Roles and responsibilities will include but are not limited to: * provide the initial patient assessment (patient interview, medical history, physical examination, and procedures) as part of a Physiatry consultation. Document the consultation after formal review with the Physiatrist. * Assist in the ongoing rehabilitation monitoring of patients with complex and unstable medical problems in cooperation with the attending physician and other members of the medical team. * Provide education to patients, families, and other health providers as appropriate. Assist, as appropriate, in the training of medical learners, Nursing and Allied Health Staff as it pertains to the rehabilitation care of our patients. * Communicate with other members of the health care team and other hospital departments, both orally, in writing and electronically. * Participate in learning activities that contribute towards enhancing delivery of patient care. * Maintain clear, accurate and appropriate records of the patient encounter and management plan. * Assist in program development and evaluation, and in the creation and evaluation of standards of care for patients admitted to our specialized care programs. * Participate in tasks related to the academic mission of the department. How do I qualify? Required: * Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant Education Program (Bachelor of Health Sciences Physician Assistant). * Minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience * Complete the National Physician Assistant Certification Examination and certification with the Physician Assistant Certification Council * Membership with Canadian Association of Physician Assistants (CAPA) * Registered in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario * Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certificate Preferred: * Prior experience working in a continuing care setting * Fluent in French and English What skills should I possess to succeed in the role? * Interpersonal communication skills and team-player * Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team and to work with multiple supervising physicians * Caring and compassionate health professional dedicated to patient care * Clinical competencies and patient assessment skills * Ability to think critically and solve problems within scope of practice * Ability to take initiative and work independently on delegated/assigned tasks * Ability to work under pressure and to adapt to change * Dedication to continued learning and professional development * Dedication to learning new and evidence-based clinical skills and integrating them into clinical practice * Interest in and willingness to participate in academic initiatives (research and teaching) About Bruyère Health Bruyère Health is Eastern Ontario’s leading health organization specializing in aging, rehabilitation, and care for those with multiple complex medical conditions.
