PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT BASIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Master’s degree in any discipline or a bachelor’s degree in any discipline with one year of experience as a Physician Assistant ~AND~
  • Successfully passed the PA National Certifying Exam (PANCE) (or are you in the process to taking the exam) ~AND~
  • Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.

Responsibilities

DUTIES

The Physician’s Assistant Certified (PA-C) practices in Primary Care Service to provide a full range of services emphasizing quality, timeliness, and the advancement of the Veterans Affairs (VA) mission. The PA-C provides advanced clinical practice, consultation, and management.
The PA-C practices to the full extent of their education, training, and certification. Core functions are outlined in the clinical privileges that correspond with this position. The PA-C has prescriptive authority for a panel of patients or program as indicated by their position.
The PA-C is licensed independent practitioner, and had a supervising physician assigned at the time of hire. Physicians’ Assistants have advanced education and national certification, that provides them the knowledge to perform evidence-based care for a population of patients.

Major duties and responsibilities of the position:

  • Manages a panel of patients with acute and chronic health conditions with an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention using evidence-based practice.
  • Develops and implements an individualized plan to achieve optimal population health and disease management.
  • Demonstrates leadership and works collaboratively with Primary Care Team and other interdisciplinary team members.
  • Order and interprets labs, tests, and diagnostic studies.
  • Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions.
  • Initiate referrals and consults to specialty services.
  • Provides education to patients and their families.
  • Assesses and adjusts the plan of care as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
