Description JOB SUMMARY: The Physician Assistant renders professional medical services in a “Professional” and competent manner in accordance with the recognized canons of professional ethics. The Supervising Physician may delegate to the Physician Assistant any medical procedures and tasks that are routinely performed within the normal scope of the Physician’s practice. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties delegated to the Physician Assistant by the Supervising Physician can be extensive, and may include but are necessarily limited to the following: 1. Eliciting a detailed and accurate history, performing a comprehensive physical examination, identifying problems and recording pertinent data in a professional format. 2. Obtaining and/or reviewing such routine diagnostic studies as common laboratory tests, radiological films, electrocardiograph tracings, and others. 3. Formulating an initial diagnosis and/or differential diagnosis and instituting appropriate treatment, including the writing of outpatient prescriptions and inpatients order. 4. Performing therapeutic procedures including injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care, incision and drainage of superficial infections, cast application and follow-up simple fractures, and others, when credentialed to do so. 5. Counseling and instructing patients on issues concerning physical and mental health, including diet, disease prevention and therapy, normal growth and development, family planning, situational adjustment reactions, and others. 6. Be knowledgeable of, and follow the administrative Incident To and Non-Incident To Policy 7. If required by the supervising physician, assisting the physician in the inpatient setting by conducting patient rounds, participating in the surgical suite, recording progress notes, determining and implementing therapeutic plans jointly with the supervising physician, in addition, compiling and recording pertinent narrative case summaries. 7. May be exposed and responsible for the handling of hazardous drugs. 9. Attends OSHA training upon initial employee orientation and annually completes an OSHA competency. Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program Current Physician Assistant Licensure or ability to become licensed in NYS Current Certification by the NCCPA Current provider cards in Basic Life support (BLS) (ACLS and PALS as required by department) Strong computer skills, including EHR RELATIONSHIP TO OTHERS: Direct relationship with patients/families, physicians and staff. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Classification of work level: Heavy. Requires sitting, standing, bending and reaching. May require lifting up to 100 pounds using proper body mechanics. Requires manual dexterity to operate standard office equipment such as computer, fax and telephone. Requires hearing and vision that is adequate to perform job duties.
