Located at 978 Worcester Street in Wellesley, MA, the Sports Medicine team at Newton-Wellesley treats a large volume of sports-related injuries. Our specialists offer state-of-the art outpatient surgical treatment using regional anesthesia for conditions of the shoulder, knee, and ankle. We work with athletes at all levels, including: high school, college, professional athletes and weekend/recreational athletes.

JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a 40-hour, Physician Assistant to support the Sports Medicine Department of Newton Wellesley Hospital. Our clinics are located at 978 Worcester Street (Route 9) in Wellesley.
The schedule consists of three days a week in the Clinic, one day in the OR, and 1 Admin Day from 8:00am-4:30pm.

Our PAs work under the clinical supervision of the Medical Director as well as the operational direction of the Practice Manager. The Physician Assistant is responsible for:

  • Provides care to patients in the outpatient clinic setting of the Newton-Wellesley Hospital Sports Medicine Department
  • Obtains and documents appropriate and comprehensive orthopedic histories and physical examinations for new, established and post-operative patients
  • Determines and implements appropriate treatment plan
  • Acts as First Assist in the Operating Room
  • Enjoys working in a team-based atmosphere
  • Reviews patient care management issues with Medical Director and Lead PA
  • Consults with appropriate resources as needed
  • Orders and interprets appropriate imaging studies
  • Helps coordinate follow-up care with the Orthopedic Surgeons
  • Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including, but not limited to: Wound care/debridement, Suturing/suture removal, Splint, brace or cast application and/or removal, Joint aspiration and/or injections of steroid and anesthetic agents
  • Writes patient orders in accordance with Medical Staff Policies
  • Responsible for In-Basket documentation in a timely manner
  • Provides first-level response to acute patient complications and emergencies and initiates appropriate measures
  • Accepts responsibility and accountability for his/her actions in delivering patient care
  • Collaborates and communicates effectively and establishes good rapport with all levels of personnel
  • Attends orthopedic Grand Rounds each week
  • Participates in the quality improvement/quality assurance process
  • Participates in monthly PA meetings

Education
Master’s Degree Physician Assistant required

Experience as a licensed Physician Assistant preferred
