DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: As the nation’s largest and most experienced provider of LGBT medical and mental health services, we help LGBTQ people lead healthier, happier lives, by keeping their minds and body well. All services are free or low cost. We’re also one of the few Federally Qualified Health Centers in the nation specializing in primary care for LGBTQ people and with a research team working to advance the care and treatment of people in our community.
JOB SUMMARY: This physician will provide comprehensive, trauma-informed, and culturally competent medical care to LGBT individuals throughout the adult lifespan. The physician’s panel of patients will reflect the diversity of LGBT community and include individuals of all genders and expressions and with varying levels of medical and psychosocial complexity, including those living with HIV. This physician will also be expected to provide episodic care for non-panel patients as needed.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ people.
- A passion for the Center’s work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong organizational, detail and interpersonal skills.
- Board Certified in either Family Medicine, General Internal Medicine or Infectious Diseases.
- A valid license to practice medicine in the State of California.
- Registered by the Drug Enforcement Administration and BLS certification required.
- Commitment to providing medical care that is trauma-informed, sex and body positive, and rooted in the tenets of harm reduction.
- AAHIVM certification or ability to become AAHIVM certified within 6 months of employment
- Strong sexual and reproductive health experience including expertise in STD diagnosis and treatment, PEP/PrEP, gender affirming hormone therapy and contraception management, preferred.
- Ability to conduct medical visits in Spanish, preferred.
- Understanding of the intersectional issues impacting LGBTQ people including the ways that racism, sexism, transphobia and income inequality impacts health access and outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expression, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration status, and physical abilities in a multicultural environment.
