POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of Clinical Leadership, the RN Team Lead for PreOp/PACU has responsibility for the delivery of patient care that promotes safety and well-being of all patients and staff in the patient pre and post operative areas. Plans, directs, coordinates, and evaluates the overall clinical practices and activities necessary to function daily. Participate in the development and implementation of policies and procedures. Monitor patient care to assess the progress of the preoperative and postoperative process. Communicates any delays preoperatively to surgeons, anesthesiologists, operating room, and registration staff in a timely and accurate manner to ensure optimal use of schedule and patient flow. Maintains open communication with all staff to promote improvement in performance and quality care. In the absence of other Center Leadership has the authority to make decisions in the Center in the areas of patient care, human resources, and clinical financial management. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide supervision, leadership and guidance to PreOp/PACU staff in problem solving, resource management, outcome achievement, and promotion of team cohesion. Demonstrate staffing accountability through planning, assigning, and directing work of subordinate staff including training, and appraising performance in conjunction with Center Leadership. Coordinate staffing based on census and increase or decrease staff as indicated. Support Center Leadership in the evaluation of performance objectives and metrics for the Center and assess the level of competence of staff in a timely manner. Demonstrate a commitment to a healthy work environment by modeling the desired behaviors and encouraging those in others including through rewarding and disciplining subordinate staff and addressing complaints and resolving problems. Demonstrate the ability to cope with and manage change effectively, as well as help others do the same. Support Center Leadership in demonstrating fiscal accountability for Center resources and the ability to achieve outcomes within allocated resources. Demonstrate a clear understanding of regulations applicable to patient care and/or other Center functions. Demonstrate the skills and judgment necessary to implement a medical plan of care, nursing interventions, and procedures as necessary for the care of the patient. Evaluate identified problems, care provided, and patient’s responses in order to meet patient and family needs to ensure overall quality of care delivered. Maintain up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team to ensure quality care. Direct other licenses and non-licensed personnel in the provision of care to patients as assigned. Function as an extension of the Director of Nursing, or PreOP/PACU Manager for staff. Follow the Center’s exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens. Promote effective working relations and works effectively as part of a team to facilitate the Center’s ability to meet its goals and objectives. Incorporate quality improvement data and/or patient satisfaction data into Center goals. Able to problem solve in the presence of stressful situations/ work environment. Effectively participate in Quality Assurance Performance Improvement, Infection Control, Safety, and Medication Management programs and committees as assigned. Appropriately document all requested reports for benchmarking, scorecards, and meeting minutes in a timely manner. Maintain budget items assigned by leadership. Support, implement, and champion the effective management of supply costs and cost savings initiatives. Function as a PreOp/PACU RN providing direct patient care as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: High school diploma or equivalent Graduate of an accredited school of nursing RN license in appropriate State BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification (as required by individual ASC policy) Minimum two years of nursing experience PREFERRED: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Nursing Healthcare management experience ASC experience
