Candidates should have the ability to inspire students and colleagues and the willingness to participate fully in all that is associated with a vibrant boarding school community. WRA strives to find the right balance of duties and responsibilities for each faculty member. Typical expectations include: Teach five physics related courses, levels to be determined by individual strengths and the needs of the department. Participate in the student life program, including dormitory duty. Outside of the classroom, teachers will supervise co-curricular activities (e.g. varsity or sub-varsity teams, community service activities, clubs, publications, etc.). Serve as an academic advisor for a small group of students. Attend school and faculty gatherings. Serve on appropriate task forces. Requirements The ideal candidate possesses most or all of the following qualifications: Minimum of five years’ experience teaching physics. Preferred Master’s degree in physics or a closely related field. Academic preparation to teach all levels of physics, including calculus-based physics. Ability to lead and develop innovative laboratory exercises. Experience with laboratory safety protocols and procedures. Enthusiasm to engage and lead teen learners in and out of the classroom. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work well with a team and independently. Experience in academic leadership. Willingness to develop connections and collaborate with other WRA academic departments, university physics departments. Motivation to provide and engage in enrichment experiences for students, such as academic competitions or STEM activities. Proficient in using technology to enhance learning in the classroom, including data collection systems. Evidence of professional development in the content field and/or education. Training and proficiency in working with diverse learners.
Responsibilities
The role involves teaching five physics-related courses, determined by departmental needs and individual strengths, while also participating fully in student life, including dormitory duty. Faculty members are also expected to supervise co-curricular activities, serve as academic advisors, attend gatherings, and serve on task forces.
