Your Opportunity:
Located in N.E. Calgary, the Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC) is an acute care hospital offering both inpatient and outpatient services. The PLC has over 600 inpatient beds, including Medical, Surgical, Pediatrics, Women’s Health and Critical Care. The PLC is the Vascular Centre for Southern Alberta, Southwestern Saskatchewan and Southeastern British Columbia. The Allied Health Department at the PLC is comprised of Rehabilitation, Social Work and Spiritual Care staff. These staff work as vital members of the interdisciplinary team to provide patient and family-centered care throughout the hospital. Under the general supervision of the Clinical Leader and Allied Health management, the successful candidate will gain experience in the assessment, treatment, education, and management of patients across various areas, including general medicine, orthopedics, general surgery, vascular surgery (including amputee rehabilitation), intensive care, and the emergency department. Caseloads may vary to meet operational needs, and additional support to other patient care units, including the emergency department, may be required to ensure a balanced workload distribution within the Physiotherapy team. The caseload for all positions within the Allied Health department may be subject to change based on operational considerations with potential for coverage on any unit/service as required. This position is physically demanding and requires frequent lifting and transferring of patients and/or equipment. The Physiotherapist I will consistently ensure their practice is evidence-based and adheres to physical therapy clinical standards. To succeed in this role, candidates must demonstrate an understanding of patient- and family-centered care strategies, fostering inclusive environments that address the diverse needs of the populations we serve.
Description:

As the Physiotherapist I (PT), you will provide therapeutic interventions to enable clients to achieve optimum physical function and independence in development, disease, disability, chronic conditions, illness and functional decline. You will provide intervention (i.e. prevention, triage, screening, assessment, diagnosis, goal setting, treatment, management, education, consultation, fostering resourcefulness, case management, referral and transition support to individuals, groups, populations and communities. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. The PT collaborates with patient(s) and families in determining, implementing and evaluating appropriate rehabilitation strategies. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich supports and engage in quality improvement; partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families and other stakeholders to advance services for their clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community; participates in peer mentoring; and supervises students. You may provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants, Therapy Aides and Provisional Physiotherapists.
