Your Opportunity:
South Health Campus (SHC) services Calgary and the surrounding rural areas and was designed as a referral centre for Southern Alberta. The primary caseload for this Casual position is on the In-Patient Medicine team with potential for coverage on other acute care units as required including the emergency department and intensive care unit. Under general supervision from the Allied Health Assistant Manager and support from the Clinical Practice Leader, this Casual Physical Therapist I position is primarily responsible to providing direct patient care responsible for the assessment and treatment of patients referred to the service as well as development, implementation and evaluation of individual treatment programs according to professional practice standards. This position is physically demanding and requires repetitive lifting and transferring of patients and/or equipment. All Physiotherapists hired within the Allied Health Department at SHC will be strongly encouraged to develop the competency to help cover critical care areas (i.e., ICU). Training and support will be provided to all new physiotherapists to develop the ICU competency, based on operational need. The caseload for all positions within the Allied Health department may be subject to change based on operational considerations. The successful incumbent will be expected to provide 2-3 weeks availability for initial orientation and subsequently be able to commit to a minimum of 1-2 weekday/daytime shifts of ongoing availability, as well as the availability to work over peak times such as summer vacation and other holiday periods. Some weekend shifts may be available after full orientation.
Description:

As the Physiotherapist I (PT), you will provide therapeutic interventions to enable clients to achieve optimum physical function and independence in development, disease, disability, chronic conditions, illness and functional decline. You will provide intervention (i.e. prevention, triage, screening, assessment, diagnosis, goal setting, treatment, management, education, consultation, fostering resourcefulness, case management, referral and transition support to individuals, groups, populations and communities. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. The PT collaborates with patient(s) and families in determining, implementing and evaluating appropriate rehabilitation strategies. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich supports and engage in quality improvement; partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families and other stakeholders to advance services for their clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community; participates in peer mentoring; and supervises students. You may provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants, Therapy Aides and Provisional Physiotherapists.
